Abstraction of Mug and Bowl

2023

Acrylic on masonite in 2 panels

16” x 16” each

Once inanimate objects, now spirits who sleep, wake, ponder, or roam: 'Abstraction of Mug and Bowl' allows dynamic movement and spatial connection within each form, creating a visual rhythm that leads the viewer's eyes to travel across the image. Inspired by a diverse range of antiques and archaeological items—from the funerary art of the Western Han dynasty to the intricate metal gilding of 19th-century Persia—I aim to bridge history and contemporary expression. In this piece, I seek to capture a visual language deeply rooted in spiritual practices, allowing for elaborate expression that resonates with the viewer on a deeper level. Through 'Abstraction of Mug and Bowl,' I invite viewers to reflect on the unseen stories and energies of everyday objects, encouraging a dialogue between past and present.
