Queen of Rage

2023

Acrylic on canvas

12” x 12”

Featuring my interpretation of Rangda, the demon queen of Léyaks in Balinese mythology, 'Queen of Rage' is a part of my ongoing exploration into a stylized abstraction that emphasizes in spatial balance and dynamic movement within forms.  Rangda is believed to be a reincarnation of a legendary witch that would destroy farmer's crops. Here, the gourd she tears apart from the vine takes on a figural quality, its leaves helplessly flailing under the claws of the scarlet queen with fiery mane. Through this piece, I invite viewers to reflect on the dual nature of rage—both destructive and transformative—and the balance between power and vulnerability.
